History

Since its creation in 1992 by Christian Vabret, the World Bakery Cup has drawn professional bakers from all over the world. They prepare several months ahead of the contest to come and compete against the best artisans of the trade. The team that wins the “World Bakery Champion” title makes a name for itself in the industry but also brings prestige to the country it represents with pride.

Since the beginning, the World Bakery Cup has endeavoured to broaden the range of countries that take part in the event and to increase the level of the competitions. Today, a series of selection events are held throughout the world to determine the best 12 teams that will be admitted to compete in the final. In 2003, the Coupe Louis Lesaffre was created by Lesaffre to ensure the selection process. All the selection events (national and international) for the World Bakery Cup are today organised by Lesaffre.

Coupe Louis Lesaffre

The Coupe Louis Lesaffre: where the best bakers in the world get together!

Through its selection contests this competition identifies talented bakers all over the world, and encourages them to open up to different cultures, express their creativity, pass on their know-how and envision the future trends in the bakery industry.

The Coupe Louis Lesaffre now has its own video media to let you experience the best moments!

The World Bakery Cup benefits from the expertise of many players (EKIP, CNBP, GL events) boasting complementary competences and who all share a same objective: to promote the very best in Bakery.

For its 9th edition, the World Bakery Cup will be held from February 5th to 9th 2016, as part of the Europain trade show in Paris.

Christian Vabret
President of Honour of the competitions: Coupe Louis Lesaffre – World Bakery Cup – Masters de la Boulangerie

Christian VabretFor Christian Vabret the passion for bakery runs in the family and following in the steps of this father, he set up his artisan bakery in 1976. He was awarded the "Maître Artisan Boulanger" distinction in 1981, then the "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" distinction in 1986. He is involved in many regional trade associations (in particular, President of the Chambre Régionale des Métiers d'Auvergne since 2000).

Keen to promote bread in France and highlight his trade, he is, among other activities, the creator and organiser of the World Bakery Cup that takes place as part of the Europain trade show. He is currently Vice-President of the Confédération Nationale de la Boulangerie et Boulangerie Pâtisserie Française, and is the Managing Director of the Bakery Contests.

His role: ensure the consistency and respect of ethical standards for the competitions in the trade.
